Naj Space na svijetu

Next the statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception. —Mark Twain, The Mysterious Stranger

Kitchen renovation

These days I am renovating my kitchen. The plan calls for the kitchen to be done this weekend. But we are far from the completion. One of the main reasons is that the electrical work took a very long time.  We wanted to add reccessed lights as well as a couple of new outlets. Due to these chanages, our electrician took a couple of days to finish the work--he had to run new wiring and switches. I can tell you life without a kitchen is terrible. Most of our meals are take outs or we go out to eat. Our fridge is in the garage; fortunately, it still works. Our place became dusty from all the drilling and sanding. Washing the dishes is a nightmare because we no longer have a kitchen sink. Finding stuff is impossible. Where's the coffee? Who moved the coffee? How come the coffee isn't where I left it? Did you finish the coffee? Is the coffee all gone? What keeps me sane is the hope that this will finish soon and we will have a new usable kitchen soon. Also the fact that I will finally be able to find my coffee keeps me optimistic.

Exercise

Lately, I haven't been going to the gym at all. Every evening I tell myself I will go the next morning, but I never actually get around to it. It would be nice if they made a gym that came to you instead of you going to it. For example, you could have a gym in the car. Your car seat could be an exercise machine. Well I suppose your car would be a bicycle then. Perhaps in the future they could have devices that could work your muscles for you, so then all you would have to do is drive to work and your exercise session would be complete. No sweat no mess. The more you drive the fitter you would be. The same technology could be taken to the workplace. Each chair could be equipped the same way. The more you work, the fitter you'd be--more or less. Well, we're probably a few years away from such technology, and probably even further away from such a workplace environment. So until then I will still have to go to gym

Caribbian trip

I have not updated my space with a blog in a while. It is not that I didn't have fun in my life and therefore didn't have much to blog about. It is quite the opposite. I had so much fun that I had little or no time for anything else. I had a very nice vacation on the Caribbean sea. My first impression of the Dominican Republic was shocking and it took a while for me to adjust to it. The fantasy image I had of pristine, exotic islands in the Caribbean was crushed. I thought places like Jamaica, Aruba, and the Dominican Republic were flourishing with prosperity from tourism. I expected something like Hawaii but with not as much American influence. As it turns out, the Dominican Republic is a very poor nation. It was heartbreaking to see so many poor people. It was difficult for me to accept that I lavished in the lap of luxury at the Hilton resort while just meters away, hundreds of poor families struggled to make a living. I was amazed to see how rich an island could be when it comes to water-front property--it's everywhere, obviously. Even the airport near Santo Domingo is virtually on the sea. I would go back to the Dominican Republic, but I wish the locals could benefit directly (and not trickle down) from the revenue that tourism brings to the nation.
